Polaris Networks Awarded US Federal Cooperative Agreement by NIST

San Jose, California, January 31, 2020 –

San Jose, California, January 31, 2020 – Polaris Networks, a leading provider of wireless 4G and 5G Test and Measurement tools, has signed a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to develop a certification test suite to test MCPTT devices for conformance to MCPTT standards. A successful test suite could be used by the certification test houses around the world to formally certify the MCPTT devices for deployment in public safety networks.

Polaris plans to deliver a brand-new product called Mission Critical Test Platform (MCTP)that will be deployment-ready, out of the box and will include all needed software, hardware (e.g., server, eNodeB etc.) and installation instructions (both written and video). The Polaris MCTP will run conformance tests against mission critical UEs or DUTs to verify compliance to MCPTT, MCVideo, and MCData standards.

The MCTP solution, which the Polaris Engineering Team is currently working on, shall be delivered over a 24-month period in two phases – firstly to support wi-fi devices and finally, to support LTE connectivity through the device under test (or the UE). The first phase is expected to be demonstrated during the PSCR Public Safety Annual Broadband Stakeholder Meeting later this year. Speaking about the opportunity to work on the MCVTE project, Sudipto Biswas, MCVTE Product Manager and Principal Investigator (PI) at Polaris Networks, stated, "We are delighted to receive this funding from NIST and along with our entire team, we are looking forward to delivering the Mission Critical Test Platform over the next two years." "We hope our solution will enable speedier deployment of mission critical features in the National Public Safety Broadband Network and help the R&D community by improving the testing process," he added.

The MCVTE Project is part of a competitive award from NIST, under which multiple organizations were awarded over $6 million over two years. Polaris Networks is one of the recipients of the award. The MCTP Solution from Polaris will enable test labs like PTCRB, to start testing public safety features in a more stringent way, and thereby support development of a standardized testing process, and speed up deployment of mission critical features in the National Public Safety Broadband Network. This solution is also likely to benefit device manufacturers and certification labs, even those that are not connected to PSCR or NIST.
